13 ADEPT (All Employees with Disabilities Possess Talent) ADEPT aims to increase the awareness and acceptance of people with disabilities. Through promotion and education of people with disabilities, ADEPT is committed to demonstrating the value that employees with disabilities bring to the workforce. Veronica Haining Regional Purchasing Manager I’ve witnessed intelligent, hard-working people experience discrimination due to disability. A CEO at a former workplace developed ALS and as her disability limited her ability to talk clearly, the people around her stopped looking to her for decisions and input. She was dismissed rather than accommodated for her disability. She had much to offer and I truly believe that the organization suffered for having discounted her. Statistics show that people with disabilities add significant value to organizations. My aim is to help educate people at Sodexo about the value available from this group of untapped talent. EMPLOYMENT FIRST CONFERENCE Prince George, BC Gordon Jewsbury and Vincent Meehan, members of the ADEPT group, represented Sodexo as keynote speakers at the Inclusion BC Employment First Conference where they shared their experience and expertise in hiring people with disabilities. It was an opportunity to communicate the best practices they and Sodexo use in the sourcing and hiring process and the positive impacts of these efforts. RWA PARTNERSHIP ADEPT initiated a partnership with Ready, Willing and Able (RWA) in order to better reach out to hire and integrate employees with disabilities. The RWA provides support and direction to employers wishing to hire candidates with disabilities. They connect employers with people with intellectual disabilities and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), and community agencies at the local, provincial, and national level.
