14 Cultural Diversity Group The Cultural Diversity group fosters and encourages an environment that values the cultural diversities of Sodexo employees. Members of this group promote the celebration, awareness, and education of distinct cultures that shape Sodexo’s workforce. These differences naturally incur diversity in terms of visions, values, beliefs, practices and means of expression. It represents an amazing source of knowledge and we ought to look at it as an opportunity. I consider cultural diversity to be the whole set of distinctive spiritual and material traits, intellectual and emotional that define a society. Culture encompasses, beyond art and literature, the ways people live together, value systems, traditions and beliefs. Respecting culture and ensuring that others do are personal and corporate responsibilities that we have chosen to embrace. I think cultural diversity is a collective strength and it is our duty to enhance it in order to ensure the development and an understanding of our environment. Cultural diversity is knowledge plurality, wisdom and altogether contributes to making the world and Sodexo a better place. WORKPLACE CULTURAL DIVERSITY WEEK Every May, Sodexo units throughout Canada, with the help of the cultural diversity group, set aside two weeks in order to celebrate cultural diversity and the added value it brings to the company. Employees, clients and customers participate in activities ranging from potlucks, fashion shows and games to cultural workshops and presentations which enable employees to proudly showcase and share their cultures. DIVERSITY FLASHCARDS The cultural diversity group developed a set of cards which display quotes and facts about diversity. These cards provide an opportunity to share Sodexo’s Diversity and Inclusion values in an interactive way. Our managers often use them at the beginning of team meetings as ‘diversity moments’ and encourage discussion and reflection based on the message on an individual card.
