15 NAAC (Native American and Aboriginal Council) The Native American and Aboriginal Council’s (NAAC) mission is to create a welcoming environment for Indigenous peoples through a deeper understanding of their heritage and values. NAAC is committed to strengthening Sodexo’s relations with Indigenous communities, employees, and business partnerships. Michael Chidane General Manager Energy & Resources I joined NAAC Chapter when it first started at Keeyask as a way of honoring cultural Diversity and Inclusion in our workplace. It really allowed me to personally acknowledge and appreciate the different cultural background, skills and styles of people I work with and helped me build an inclusive and harmonious team. Since we have started the chapter, I have seen everyone coming together and sharing different perspectives, while creating an inclusive environment where we can bring our whole selves to work and become more engaged and productive. I am looking forward to the coming year where we hope to expand our Diversity and Inclusion initiatives. NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY June 21 is National Aboriginal Day and for that occasion the different NAAC Chapters around the country organized several events and activities in order to celebrate and educate about Indigenous culture. NAAC provided a toolkit featuring examples of activities our teams could organize to celebrate the day. Clients, customers and Indigenous partners joined our employees at Pow Wows, banquets, arts and crafts, presentations by Elders, and dancing and games. NAAC MAGAZINE NAAC launched the first edition of their very own magazine this year. Each issue features news and interesting facts about Indigenous culture, the members and chapters of NAAC at Sodexo in Canada and around world. INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY The Keeyask NAAC Chapter celebrated the day by hosting a panel discussion on the topic «Women and girls achieving their ambitions», led by a diverse group of speakers who shared their unique experiences, insights and opinions as female leaders. The event was a great success as it raised awareness of the issues women face in the workplace, in remote sites in particular.
