17 SAGE (Sharing Across GEnerations) Sharing Across GEnerations (SAGE)’s mission is to increase employee engagement and organizational effectiveness by promoting awareness and understanding of generational diversity in the workplace. As part of the Diversity Council, SAGE strives to break down age stereotypes that hurt the organization as well as personal and professional growth. Anne McFetridge District Manager, Education Because I work on university campuses, I am very mindful that I need to understand the different needs of the up and coming generations as well as those of my own. I joined SAGE because I have a lot of colleagues who are Baby Boomers but we also have great generational diversity because we are working with students. I wanted to understand how to combine the strengths of these diverse generations. With SAGE I learn what motivates each and what each needs to feel supported to achieve success and maximum value from their jobs. SAGE opens the door to multi-generational discussions and learning sessions that heighten our awareness of the negative impacts of ageism and the positive rewards of expanding our knowledge of and support for all generations in our workplace. SAGE WEBEXs | SAGE CAFÉ Throughout the year, SAGE organizes WebEx presentations in partnership with Bridgeworks as well as SAGE Café sessions which explore different aspects of interregenerational interactions both in informal contexts and in the workplace. The topics discussed aim to unveil generational issues and deconstruct preconceived ideas. SAGE’s mission is to stop ageism by enlightening people to the strengths of others no matter their age. The resources they offer are meant to help people see each other in a different, more positive light.
